The Belleville Livestock Auction brings farmers into town for the morning, and flea markets, yard sales and roadside stands pop up throughout Big Valley. Arrive early because the flea markets close up around lunchtime, but stay for the livestock auction at 1 p.m.

A word about the Amish. Big Valley is home to many sects in the Amish religion. Beliefs and customs vary but this basic tenet is true— The Amish here live quiet, peaceful lives and are not on display for tourists. Your best and easiest opportunity to talk to the Amish is to buy something from them. Look for produce stands at flea markets and along the road. Treat them with respect—just like you would any other vendor—and take home fresh veggies and a whoopie pie or two. Bring cash and a friendly smile!
